Darren Fletcher backs Marcus Rashford to continue shining for Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will be more effective in front of goal in their upcoming matches, with Marcus Rashford returning to form.

The England international received a boost during the international break by scoring for the Three Lions and followed that up by netting against Liverpool during the 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

Despite missing a penalty in the recent victory over Norwich City, Rashford did not shy from the responsibility against the Blues, tucking home in the first half.

The forward, who turns 22 tomorrow, then scored the winning goal in the second period after Michy Batshuayi's equaliser, stepping up to smash a long-range free-kick into the top corner.

As a result, Fletcher believes that Rashford has benefited from numerous confidence boosts and has backed him to shine in the upcoming matches for Solskjaer 's side.

“I was really surprised that he didn’t take the second penalty on Saturday, I wanted him to, but the fact he stepped up tonight shows his character,” he told Sky Sports.

“The confidence boost he got from the England goals and then the goal against Liverpool, even small things like putting Virgil van Dijk on his backside early in the game, the invincible defender like everyone thinks.

“I think all these things have given him a lot of confidence and scoring against Liverpool as a Manchester United player is massive. He’s gone on from leaps and bounds, he’s relaxed.

“His mate Martial is back now so he’s not feeling the burden of being the out-and-out goalscorer, Martial is the number nine and Rashford will play off him, so I think we’ll see a lot more goals going forward.”
