Darren Clarke wins his second Champions Tour event on the trot

Darren Clarke has won his second Champions Tour event on the trot.

The 52-year-old shot a sizzling eight-under 64 final round to win the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii by two strokes from Retief Goosen.

Clarke broke his duck on the tour in November with a victory at the Timbertech Championship.

That was the last start for the former Open champion until this week, although an opening round 63 showed that there wasn't much rust to shake off.

Clarke started the final round tied for the lead with Jerry Kelly, but it was South African Goosen who was making waves early by turning in 32 strokes.

Goosen and Clarke got locked in a battle down the stretch as the Dungannon man caught fire with four birdies in five holes to begin his last nine holes.

A big moment came on the par three 17th hole when Clarke holed a monster birdie putt to forge a two shot lead.

And when Goosen could only par the last, two more perfectly struck shots from Clarke into the heart of the 18th green were enough to seal the deal once again and pick up a $310,000 first prize.
