Darren Clarke finishes third at the Senior Open

After an impressive tournament, Darren Clarke finished third in the Senior Open at Sunningdale.

His final round of 67, and total of 11-under-par, put him narrowly two shots off the winner, Welshman Stephen Dodd.

Dodd fired a final-round 68 for a total of 13-under-par 267 on the old course, which gave him his first Senior Major title.

The Welshman won the Irish Open back in 2005.

Clarke started Sunday's final round three strokes behind leader Dodd, but after a moved a shot clear of him after birdies on one, two, seven and nine.

After the four birdies on the front nine, the 52-year-old then picked up another one at the 13th but his title chase ended as he crashed out of the race with a bogey on the 16th.

Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez, finished in second place.

Clarke could have became the first European to add a Senior Open title to an Open Championship triumph if he had won.

He has enjoyed his start to life on the PGA Tour Champions circuit having picked up two victories in the last eight months.
