Darren Clarke claims first win since 2011 Open at TimberTech Championship in Florida

Former Open champion Darren Clarke claimed his first PGA Tour Champions title with a one-shot victory over Jim Furyk and Bernhard Langer in the TimberTech Championship in Florida.

The 52-year-old fired a birdie on the par-five 18th to secure his first tournament triumph since the 2011 Open at Royal St George's.

Clarke, Europe's Ryder Cup captain in 2016, finished with a final round of 68 to get to 17 under par and see off a stellar chasing pack.

Speaking after the win, Clarke told USA Today: "I haven’t had one of these in a while. I was drunk for a week the last time I won. I imagine I’ll wake up with a headache tomorrow."

He added: "I’ve had a lot of opportunities the last few years, so it’s great to finally win one. I wouldn’t be working this hard if I didn't think I could still win."
