Darren Bent takes aim as he blasts Nottingham Forest duo

Former Derby County striker Darren Bent hit out at Cyrus Christie and Joe Worrall for how they defended Britt Assombalonga's goal for Middlesbrough in their 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest.

Assombalonga opened the scoring against his former club in the 15th minute as Forest appeared to play for offside and expected a flag which never came.

But the former Peterborough forward dispatched the chance which came his way which left Reds boss Chris Hughton bemoaning both of the goals they conceded as George Saville grabbed the second.

Bent, speaking to the EFL highlights show on Quest, said that while Assombalonga had produced a fine finish, he said Forest's defending left a lot to be desired.

"He scores a great goal but it was real poor defending, lazy defending from Joe Worrall and Cyrus Christie just letting him get in there,” said Bent.

“He was onside and it was a great finish through the goalkeeper’s legs.

“He was certainly in the wars today scoring a great goal and was involved in the second."

Forest are next back in action at the weekend when they face Swansea in the FA Cup with the winners banking a home tie against Manchester City in the next round.

But they will be without defender Yuri Ribeiro who is suspended after he was sent off late on against the Reds.
