Darren Bent strays into Celtic guard of honour debate as he goes beyond Rangers stance with ultimate solution demand

Darren Bent has backed Rangers decision to call off the guard of honour for Celtic - insisting that every league should follow the example of the Light Blues.

Michael Beale revealed Rangers won't be applauding Celtic on to the pitch at Ibrox this weekend after Ange Postecoglou's side claimed the Scottish Premiership crown with a victory against Hearts last Sunday. The game marks the first time Celtic have played since claiming their second consecutive trophy and despite tradition dictating that the guard of honour should take place, Postecoglou also played down concerns over the snub.

Former Tottenham and Sunderland striker Bent has gone a step further as he insisted clubs across the globe should stop the show of respect as he addressed Rangers derby day decision with Andy Goldstein on talkSPORT. He said: "I don't particularly like it. I think it is a bit ridiculous. We know that they are the champions. You get the gold badge at the end of the season."

Pushed by Goldstein on if Rangers were right to call off the guard of honour because "it's a little bit deeper up north." Bent went on: "Yeah, with that rivalry. I think that the guard of honour should be scrapped."
