Darrelle Revis, Richard Sherman exchange jabs on Twitter

Darrelle Revis claims he didn’t mean to throw shade at Richard Sherman. But Revis did. And Sherman responded accordingly.

During the San Francisco 49ers’ win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game, Revis called out Sherman for his style of play. The two cornerbacks couldn’t be more different. Revis, who retired in 2017, played a unique brand of man-coverage, in which he received no help against the best receivers in the NFL. Sherman, meanwhile, has generally played in a zone defense where he shuts down one side of the field — with occasional help from teammates. Revis clearly thinks his style of play is harder to pull off.

“Fear of getting beat in man to man coverage,” Revis wrote on Twitter Sunday evening. “Every snap every play. The fact that he doesn’t travel as a cornerback is lame. Except the challenge as the best and shut Adams down the entire game. Do it for the game of football. Stop hiding a cover 3 zone.”

Sherman chirped back at Revis.

Both before and after Sherman responded on Twitter, Revis backtracked his comments.

Revis and Sherman have gotten into a Twitter beef before. They had a social-media spitting match in 2013 — roughly a year before before they matched up in Super Bowl XLIX when Sherman played for the Seahawks the Revis played for the Patriots.
