Darrell Henderson Jr. hurt his hand but was able to finish practice

With Cam Akers already out for the season, Darrell Henderson Jr. has become a player the Rams can’t afford to lose. Sean McVay is keeping him out of all three preseason games and will do what he can to keep the running back fresh and healthy throughout the season.

He had a little scare on Tuesday when he hurt his hand in practice but fortunately, he was able to return and finish the session. Sean McVay doesn’t sound too worried about it, which is a good sign for his availability moving forward.

“Darrell Henderson, he ended up coming back in,” McVay said. “He got his hand just kind of hit in the middle of practice, so he was just getting that checked out and he ended up finishing and doing a couple things.”

Henderson missed three games as a rookie and three last season (including the playoffs) due to injuries, which is why the Rams are so committed to keeping him healthy and not overextending his workload.

McVay likes Xavier Jones and Jake Funk behind him, but Henderson is a critical part of the offense now with Akers out.
