Darragh Noone signs new Drogheda United deal, says more to come from Boynesiders

Darragh Noone has insisted that there is more to come from Drogheda United, after last year’s eighth place finish.

The Boynesiders were many people’s tips to go down after they lost manager Tim Clancy and a host of top players.

Under Kevin Doherty, however, they never looked in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle.

And Noone, who joined midway through the season, is ready to help push the side on next year.
The 25-year-old midfielder made 11 appearances after his arrival in the summer and on Monday he penned a new deal with the Premier Division side.

He said: “The half season I had here was brilliant, I loved every minute.

“The club, there’s a great atmosphere around the place between everyone, from the staff, to the fans, to the manager, to the players so it was a no brainer and I’m delighted to get it done.”

The ex-Bray Wanderers, Shelbourne, Sligo Rovers and Talavera (Spanish third-tier side) man will be a vital player in Doherty’s side next year.

His versatility meant he lined out at right-back, centre-half and in midfield last season.

“I felt really comfortable. Mentally I was in a good place and I was able to just enjoy my football,” he said.

“That’s what I really loved about it, I was just playing with enjoyment on the pitch.

“Being thrown in was probably best for me, I was in straight away and in a couple of different positions.

“You don’t have time to think about what’s going on, it’s just to go out there and enjoy it.

“I enjoyed being back at that level of football and there’s a lot more I can hopefully step on with for next year.

“You’ve seen what we did last season, the group that was put together, what Kevin and Daire have done, so we’ll absolutely be looking to build on last season.”
