Darragh Egan reveals Munster Final loss forced a re-think in the Tipperary team

Darragh Egan has revealed that Tipp’s Munster final surrender to Limerick forced a re-think ahead of the All-Ireland series.

The Premier selector concedes that the Tipp management may have mis-calculated how much the four round robin games in the province would take out of the players, and it showed in the Gaelic Grounds defeat.

“Obviously we hit a bit of a speed bump against Limerick,” Egan said. “The worrying thing from that game was our energy levels. We didn’t hit the ground running at all.

“We learned a lot from that. We needed to tweak a few things in training. The volume of training we were doing came down a small bit heading upto Croke Park in the run up to the Laois and Wexford games, and now we’re ready to rock for the All Ireland.

“We maybe underestimated the amount that the four games in six weeks took from us.

“We just didn’t perform against Limerick and when we reflected on it, we probably put so much emphasis on the first four games to get out of Munster, we just didn’t have enough in the tank.”

But he claimed that the defeat didn’t create any doubt within the camp.

“Not really, we just have poor personal performances and no energy,” he reflected. “We knew we were in the All-Ireland series and the route we’d have to take to get to an All-Ireland final”.
