Darqueze Dennard cites new energy around team as one reason for Bengals return

Darqueze Dennard likes what he sees from the new-look Cincinnati Bengals.

Specifically, Dennard likes the new energy in the building, which is one of the reasons he decided to re-sign with the team on a one-year deal.

A chat with new head coach Zac Taylor helped.

“I talked to him a few days ago. Good talk,” Dennard said, according to Bengals.com. “We just talked about the excitement of the season. You can definitely tell he’s got a lot of energy being a younger guy and also being very successful. That’s always good. That’s contagious. That’s good to have around.”

Dennard says he took one visit with another team and was supposed to have more, but a chat with his fiance and agent helped him align with a one-year deal in Cincinnati.

After making the deal official, Dennard made it clear he wants the Bengals to boast the NFL’s best secondary. It’s clear he thinks the new coaching staff can help in this pursuit and if he’s right, he could hit free agency again next offseason with an even bigger chance at a long-term deal.
