The Chicago Bears looked like an entirely different offense against the Detroit Lions, which had a lot to do with new play caller Bill Lazor, who opened things up.
Chicago was able to establish a rhythm early behind running back David Montgomery, which eventually opened up the downfield passing attack. Rookie quarterback Justin Fields threw five passes of 20-plus yards, including three to receiver Darnell Mooney.
Our Bears players of the game is Mooney, who had a career day with 125 receiving yards on 5 catches. One of those was a 64-yard bomb from Fields, which set up Chicago’s second score of the game. Mooney also had a career-high 135 all-purpose yards, which included a 10-yard run.
‘‘Me and Mooney, we stay almost every day after practice to throw at least a few extra routes,’’ Fields said. ‘‘So me and him are pretty much always on the same page. He had a great day. He balled out.’’
