Darnell Fisher investigated by FA after grabbing Callum Paterson’s genitals

Darnell Fisher is being investigated by The FA after video footage appeared to show the Preston North End defender grabbing Callum Paterson's genitals.

Preston beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 with cameras picking up the exchange between the players during the second half as the hosts defended a corner.

Paterson looked to grab referee David Webb's attention after initially being touched in his mid-section, before Fisher repeated the action.

There is a precedent for how the authorities deal with this behaviour in other sports, notably when England rugby player Joe Marler was banned for 10 weeks earlier this year when he was caught fondling Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones' privates.

Fisher is therefore likely to face a ban if The FA are able to prove his behaviour resembled Marler's.

While St Helens' Tommy Makinson was also suspended in Super League for five matches in August after clutching Castleford's Liam Watts' genitalia.

This type of behaviour has become more common in sport this year with Catalans Dragons forward Joel Tomkins also handed a ban for eight matches after making “inappropriate contact” on Leeds full-back Richie Myler's backside.
