A man arrested over a double stabbing yesterday was known to the victims, it is understood.
Gardai have said they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the attack on a man and woman in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The horror incident took place at a house on Snowdrop Walk in Darndale, north Dublin at around 7.30am on Saturday morning.
A man in his 20s has been arrested in relation to the knife attacks.
He is due to appear in court at 10.30am this morning charged in relation to the incident.
The victims, a man and woman aged in their 40s and 50s respectively, were taken to Beaumont Hospital following the incident.
The man was fighting for his life last night but has this morning been described as 'stable'.
Meanwhile, the woman was recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
A source told Dublin Live : “There doesn’t appear to have been a party involving a lot of people at the house but rather a few family members who had gathered.
"The reasons behind the attack are not yet known.”
A Garda spokesman said: “Gardai are investigating a serious assault that occurred at a house in the Darndale area of Dublin on June 13 at approximately 7.30am.
"A man and a woman, aged in their 40s and 50s respectively, both received stab wounds.
"They have been taken to Beaumont Hospital. The man’s condition is described as critical and the woman’s injuries are understood to be serious but non-life-threatening.
“The scene is currently preserved for a Garda technical examination.
“A man, aged in his 20s, was arrested at the scene and is detained at Coolock Garda station. Gardai are not seeking any other persons in relation to this incident. Investigations are ongoing.”
