Darndale FC condemn vandals holding up completion of €90,000 astroturf pitch and Parkrun in Darndale Park

Darndale FC have condemned vandals holding up the completion of their €90,000 astroturf pitch.

The club have been building the new facility, with the assistance of Dublin City Council, in Darndale Park since the end of last year.

But the destruction of the site has led to big delays with the project, which is not only affecting the football club but also the Parkrun that takes place in the park.

And the club have taken to social media to plead with the local community to help stop the hold-up.

"Darndale FC and Dublin City Council have bee working closely together to get an astro pitch installed for our club and community at a cost of 90k," the club said.

"The work started in mid-December and was expected to be completed by now, but due to vandalism the astro has had railings removed [and the] disabled gate damaged, and has to be redone.

"This is not fair on our kids that love football and the coaches and managers that give their time voluntary to keep the sport going for our community.

"Not only is it taking its toll on football but Parkrun has to be cancelled every week due to heavy machinery on key pathways.

"Please respect the facilities and if you see damage been done report it."
