Darlington road to be closed for 'foreseeable future' as air ambulance called to serious collision

A road in County Durham will be closed "for the foreseeable future" after an air ambulance was called to a serious collision.

Emergency services were called to the B6275 between Summerhouse and Royal Oak near Darlington on Wednesday evening following a serious two-vehicle. It's believed to have occurred at the crossroads with Bolam Lane and Brownside Lane.

Durham Constabulary warned that the road will remain closed both ways for the "foreseeable future" after firefighters from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service rescued two females trapped in a car.

The Great North Air Ambulance and the North East Ambulance Service also attended the scene. Three people in total were taken to hospital, one by air ambulance. One person is believed to have potentially life-changing injuries.

Officers said the road remains closed and urged people to seek alternative routes while the collision is dealt with.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Officers are currently dealing with an incident on the B6275 between Summerhouse and Royal Oak. The road will be closed on both sides for the foreseeable future so please seek alternative routes."

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call to 999 at 5.12pm this evening for a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Brownside Lane in Bolam.

"We sent three emergency ambulances, and officers and requested support from the doctor with the Great North Air Ambulance. In total three patients were taken to hospital for further treatment, two to James Cook and one to Darlington."
