CHICAGO _ The Blackhawks won their second consecutive game on Friday with a 2-1 victory over the Hurricanes at the United Center.
The Hawks won this one on the back of Scott Darling, who was stellar in net with 39 saves, a season high.
Darling stood tall against every flurry of shots the Hurricanes' threw at him as the Hawks allowed a season high in shots.
After gaining earning 20 shots on goal in the first period Thursday against the Sabres, the Hawks reverted the their old form in the first period Friday night _ the Hurricanes outshot them 19-9. But the Hawks got the lone score in the period from Jonathan Toews, who finished off a nice bit of tic-tac-toe passing.
Brian Campbell and Vincent Hinostroza won a puck battle along the left boards. Hinostroza skated to the middle where he passed the puck to the slot to Marian Hossa, who dished a perfect touch pass to Toews for the goal.
It was the fifth point for Toews in his last five games.
The Hawks survived a pair of penalty kills in the period thanks to Darling, who made nine saves over those two kills. Then after killing another penalty in the second period, the Hawks got their second goal of the night from Artemi Panarin on a power play.
Duncan Keith made a heady play to save of the puck from exiting the Hawks zone at the blue and dished it off to Patrick Kane, who passed cross ice to Panarin. Panarin waited before firing a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Cam Ward at 13:29.
But the Hurricanes finally got to Darling late in the second period. On the Hurricanes' 31st shot of the night, Victor Rask beat Darling on a rebound goal with 4.2 seconds remaining as Darling could not survive another late flurry of shots.
