Darkness into Light 2023: Locations across Dublin and everything you need to know

The annual Darkness into Light walk ran by Pieta House is taking place on Saturday May 6 in different locations across Dublin and the country.

The event sees communities come together at 4:15am to start walking together in the darkness and end the journey at sunrise. The symbolic walk represents how even though you may be in a dark place there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

With over 200 walks taking place across 15 counties and countries, there are 11 walks in Dublin to choose from on the day.

When it comes to signing up for the event there are three options as you can sign up as an individual to one of the organised locations, you can organise your own route in which you can walk, cycle or swim or you can set yourself to do a challenge to go for a hike or skydive and raise money through sponsorship.

Once you have selected your option on the Darkness into Light website, you can then select your ticket type from the following options:

  • Adult €26
  • Child (6-17 yrs) €5
  • Family (max 2 adults plus five children) €62
  • Concession (jobseeker, senior, student) €21
  • Baby/ toddler €0

The website will then ask you for your details such as your email address and phone number. There will also be an option to select a t-shirt for the walk.

If you already have a Darkness into Light t-shirt then you can select an option for that and rewear it. You will also get a 10% discount for doing so at the checkout.

The locations for the walk in Dublin include:

  • Balbriggan
  • Cabinteely Athletic Club
  • Clontarf
  • Corkagh Park
  • DCU Campus
  • Malahide Castle
  • Marlay Park
  • Phoenix Park
  • Ringsend
  • Swords Rivervalley
  • Tymon Park

Each walk begins at 4:15am and finishes around 6:30am, for the starting locations for each walk you can find them on their website.

The charity has even complied its own Darkness into light Spotify playlist for the walk, and confirmed that pets are welcome as long as they are on a lead and well trained.

For more information you can visit the Darkness into Light website.
