Dark side of Brad Pitt's split from Angelina Jolie as he joined AA to deal with boozing

Brad Pitt has admitted he turned to Alcoholics Anonymous to deal with his boozing after his split from Angelina Jolie.

The Hollywood couple parted ways in September 2016, just two years after they married, setting them on the path for a bitter divorce.

At the time, Brad, 56, was accused of getting into a drunken row with Angelina, 44, on a private plane and having a bust-up with their adopted son Maddox.

The incident led to an investigate by children's services, which eventually cleared Brad.

The Oscar-winning actor went on to re-evaluate his life, and joined AA to deal with his drinking.

He told the New York Times : "I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privileges.

"You had all these men sitting around being open and honest in a way I have never heard,

"It was this safe space where there was little judgment, and therefore little judgment of yourself.

"'It was actually really freeing just to expose the ugly sides of yourself.

"There’s great value in that."

Brad has previously confessed he depended on booze and cannabis for years, telling GQ in 2017: "I can’t remember a day since I got out of college when I wasn’t boozing or had a spliff, or something.

"And you realize that a lot of it is, um - cigarettes, you know, pacifiers. And I’m running from feelings. I’m really, really happy to be done with all of that."

In his new interview with the New York Times, he elaborated and admitted he bonged himself into oblivion" after shooting to fame.

Brad was previously married to Jennifer Aniston from 2000 until 2005.
