Daring West Lothian locals take to frozen pond for 'game of ice hockey'

Daring West Lothian locals have been pictured playing what appears to be a game of ice hockey at a frozen pond in Beecraigs Country Park.

Scots have been experiencing freezing temperatures the last couple of days, with a yellow warning for ice and snow in place yesterday, causing many bodies of water to freeze over.

The eyewitness who took the picture said: "I thought they looked like they were having a great time, the ice was definitely thick enough as they had cut a bit out to check the depth."

In Glasgow hundreds of locals have also been spotted flocking to Queens Park, where people have been spotted ice skating.

It comes as Pentland Hills Regional Park warned locals to avoid going on the ice as people have sadly died in the past after falling in.

Mr Partridge released a statement on behalf of Pentland Hills Regional Park, penning: "Many of the reservoirs in the Pentland Hills Regional Park are frozen over.

"Going onto the ice or letting your dog onto the ice is very dangerous. Several deaths have occurred in the park through people falling through ice.

"By going onto the ice you are encouraging others to follow you. Ice thickness can vary greatly on reservoirs. We should all think about keeping risks low at the moment to avoid accidents which may lead to overwhelming the NHS. Please keep off frozen reservoirs."
