Daring red van driver crashes through and rips level crossing barrier clean off causing delays to trains headed for Dublin

A train headed for Dublin was delayed today after a daring driver in a red van slammed right through a level crossing barrier and ripped it completely off.

CCTV camera footage shared by Iarnród Éireann showed the speeding van taking out the barrier at Knockroghery in Roscommon at around 8:40 this morning.

The 7:15am service from Westport to Dublin was subsequently an hour late arriving at the capital, with further knock-on delays throughout the day.

Irish Rail shared the video footage with a reminder for people to act safely at level crossings.

They tweeted: "Ongoing delays remain to Westport services as a result of this motorist's action earlier today.

"Crews are continuing repair works.

"Please remember to act safely at level crossings.

"Always obey crossing warning signs."
