'Daredevil' stray hamster found trying to steal Pick n Mix in Sauchiehall Street Poundland

The Scottish SPCA have launched an appeal to trace the owner of a 'daredevil' stray hamster who was found trying to steal Pick n Mix in Poundland on Sauchiehall Street.

The animal welfare charity were called out to the city centre store on New Year's Eve after receiving a call from a member of the public. CCTV footage showed the hamster clinging on to an unsuspecting shopper, before making a beeline for the Pick n Mix area.

The Scottish SPCA have aptly named the plucky pet 'Tom Cruise' and are hoping to reunite him with his owner.

Animal rescue officer Amy Stirton collected the hamster from the store and he is now being looked after at an animal rescue and rehoming centre.

Amy said: “This hamster is in good health and we are keen to reunite him with his owner. We’ve named the little adrenaline junkie Tom Cruise for now, given his Mission Impossible-esque attempt to get some treats from Poundland.”

“Given how unusual this year has been, it feels appropriate to round off 2020 with such a bizarre job!”

If anyone has any information which may help the Scottish SPCA trace this hamster’s owner, please call the charity’s animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
