Daredevil cancelled by Netflix despite being one of the most streamed shows across America

Charlie Cox as Matt Murdoch in Netflix's 'Daredevil' ( Netflix )

Netflix has begun cancelling all their Marvel content, beginning with Iron Fist and recently culminating in Daredevil.

The latter came as a particular surprise, as the Charlie Cox-led series has picked up rave reviews and seemingly had a large fan-base.

According to the latest numbers from Parrot Analytics, as published by Deadline, the series was indeed hugely popular with streamers: the company claims Daredevil was the fourth most-demanded show among all digital original programmes in the US last week.

The three series that beat the superhero show were NarcosThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Stranger Things, all of which are currently streaming on Netflix and have further seasons incoming.

While the streaming service does not provide official numbers, the analytics company claims that around 30 million demand expressions were made for Deredevil in November, finishing ahead of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale as well as Netflix’s House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and The Last Kingdom.

With Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Daredevil having been dropped by Netflix, many commentators have concluded that their ties with Disney – who own the rights tot eh Marvel properties – have become strained following the announcement of Disney’s own streaming platform, Disney+. All other Disney content is being slowly removed from Netflix.

Jessica Jones and The Punisher have upcoming seasons, but both are not expected to be renewed past their third and second seasons, respectively.
