Rangers boss Steven Gerrard left furious by Dapo Mebude racist abuse as police investigate sick taunts

Steven Gerrard admits he was left furious by racist abuse aimed at Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude.

The 19-year-old Ibrox youngster spoke out on social media last night to reveal his dismay at sickening taunts from 'Rangers' fans online.

Police are now investigating the horrendous slurs after the teenager was targeted while playing FIFA.

He wrote on Twitter: "Some “Rangers” fans being racist towards my family over a game of FIFA."

A disgusted Gerrard will now check in face-to-face with rising star Mebude.

The Light Blues boss said: "We as a club have got structures in place to make sure all of our players get the right care, protection and welfare in these situations.

"We condemn it as a football club. I've sat here many times and said we won't accept and tolerate that type of behaviour.

"It's now a police matter so I have to be careful how much I say on this matter.

"I'm really angry and disappointed that this has happened and in the coming hours I'll certainly be trying to get face-to-face with Dapo to try and talk to him."

Managing director Stewart Robertson has championed the club's 'Everyone, Anyone' inclusion campaign in recent seasons.

First-team stars James Tavernier and Connor Goldson have also been commended in speaking out against racism in football.
