Danzell Gravenberch on trial at St Johnstone as former Ajax and Reading defender looks to win deal

Former Ajax defender Danzell Gravenberch is aiming to win a move to St Johnstone.

The powerhouse stopper played for 45 minutes of Saints’ 1-1 draw with Glentoran on Wednesday night and made a good first impression with his strength and skill on the ball.

Gravenberch is a free agent after leaving Reading and could be a useful addition to Tommy Wright’s squad if a deal suits both parties.

Gravenberch spent 11 years at the Ajax academy from the age of eight and helped Holland’s Under 17’s become European champions in 2012.

After leaving Ajax in search of first-team football, the 25-year-old spent time with Romanian side Cluj and Dutch outfit Dordrecht.

In 2016, he earned a three-year deal with Reading but spent two years of that contract on loan to Belgian side Roeselare before he left the Royals at the end of last season.

Gravenberch could feature again for Saints on Saturday when they face Linfield at Windsor Park.
