Dante Olson named the Eagles one UDFA who should turn heads in training camp

The Philadelphia Eagles take a lot of heat of not properly addressing the linebacker position but the past two offseasons have seen Howie Roseman land stud linebackers with great value at a low price.

Last summer it was T.J. Edwards, undrafted out of Wisconsin and likely to be the Eagles starting middle linebacker at Washington.

Now after the 2020 NFL Draft that saw the Eagles select two linebackers, an undrafted free agent from Montana could be the prized gem of the entire process.

Bleacher Report just profiled the one undrafted free agent from all 32 NFL team that should turn heads in training camp and Olson made the list for the Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles: LB Dante Olson

Getting an award-winning player in free agency is always a good thing.

So it goes for the Philadelphia Eagles with linebacker Dante Olson, the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year who just put up 179 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, four pass breakups, and one interception last season at FCS program Montana.

Linebacker was one of the weaker points of the Eagles roster going into the draft after the loss of Nigel Bradham, which would explain why they selected several and added more in free agency.

But Olson’s stellar production and nose for the football on a situational basis should have him standing out in camp.

Olson was the 2019 Buck Buchanan Award winner, which is given to the most outstanding defensive player in the FCS. A tackling machine at Montana in the last two seasons, Olson has all the goods and could make a lot of teams regret passing on him.

Olson started 25 of 47 games at Montana and during his final season, he set the Big Sky Conference’s single-season record for tackles with 179 and made 26 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, three interceptions, five forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. In the game that put him on the map, Olson registered 14 tackles against Oregon.

A smart and instinctive ball-hawk, Olson plays in the mold of T.J. Edwards.
