Danny Welbeck's Arsenal exit explained as star to follow Aaron Ramsey out on free transfer

Danny Welbeck could potentially make his comeback from injury in next Wednesday's Europa League final against Chelsea.

The England international has been out since November after breaking his ankle in the European home game against Sporting Lisbon.

The 28-year-old is now back involved on the training pitch with his teammates and he even netted a hat-trick in an internal friendly last week.

If indeed Unai Emery elects to pick the experienced player in his squad, it will be his last appearance for the club as he will join Aaron Ramsey in leaving on a free transfer this summer as his contract is due to expire at the end of June.

Speaking to Arsenal's official website, head of football Raul Sanllehi explained why the club are losing the striker for absolutely nothing.

"In ways it is quite similar to the Aaron situation," he said. "This summer we were in talks with him to see if [he would stay or go], he had several offers, he decided to continue in the club until the end of the contract. We respected that.

"We knew that he was going to add a lot to the club over the last year, but again, we were in the last year of contract so it was a very similar situation."

"Well, that's the only risk of going to the last year of the contract," added the Spaniard when talking about the player's horrific ankle injury in the game against Sporting Lisbon.

"You have all the upsides on the strength that you have to negotiate a new contract elsewhere, but the risk that you're running is getting an injury on your last year, yes."
