Danny Welbeck injury: 'Strong' Arsenal striker receives well wishes from friend Santi Cazorla

Former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has joined a host of football stars in sending messages of support to stricken forward Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck was carried off in the first-half of the 0-0 Europa League draw with Sporting on Thursday night, with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.

It is the latest blow to the 27-year-old, who has battled back from a series of knee injuries and had been named in Gareth Southgate's England squad on Thursday afternoon.

Cazorla was no stranger to injury in the latter part of his Arsenal spell, missing the best part of two years with an Achilles injury that then-manager Arsene Wenger called the worst he had ever seen.

Now at Villarreal, Cazorla was quick to take to social media, writing: "Get Well soon my friend. These are the worst things in football but I know you are strong and you will come back, you deserve the best My man."

The Spaniard was joined by several of Welbeck's Arsenal and England team-mates, as well as Portuguese winger Nani, who was playing for Sporting at the Emirates and spent time with Welbeck at Manchester United.
