Danny Welbeck is in contention to make his Watford debut against Everton on Saturday.

The striker signed for the Hornets last week on a free transfer after being released by Arsenal earlier on in the summer.

A number of clubs had been tracking the England international, including Crystal Palace and Everton, but Watford won the race for his signature.

The 28-year-old is slowly having his workload in training increased and he could make his debut at Goodison Park tomorrow.

“He is training with us all this week, with the rest of the team,” said Watford head coach Javi Gracia.

“He is training well and I think he can help us in the next games because what I see is he’s ready.”

While Welbeck is pushing to make the squad for tomorrow’s match, Watford’s club-record signing Ismaila Sarr is unlikely to feature.

The 21-year-old only began training with the Hornets on Wednesday and he will not be rushed into first-team action after a summer spent playing for Senegal at the African Cup of Nations.

“He needs time to be ready and after a time resting, he needs time to recover his best condition,” said Gracia.

I expect he will be ready as quick as possible. I am sure he is going to help us this season. He has a lot of skills, good qualities to help us.

He is a very good offensive player: he has speed and an offensive mentality as a winger and as a striker. I'm sure we will be stronger offensively with him.

Watford will, however, have forward Gerard Deulofeu available for the clash with Everton.

There were concerns over the Spaniard’s fitness after he was withdrawn at half-time against Brighton last Saturday, but that was done because he was unwell on the eve of the game.
