Danny Rose reveals how close he came to leaving Tottenham last summer

Tottenham Hotspur star Danny Rose has revealed that he was close to leaving the club last summer after being a part of the England squad at the World Cup.

Rose started twice for England during the tournament as the nation made the semi-finals but the 28-year-old's life at Spurs was up in the air once he returned.

The versatile player has now opened up on the discussions he had with a rival side about leaving North London before the proposed move didn't work out.

Why Leicester City could have a major impact on Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs' top four race

But Rose insists he is now loving life at Tottenham again following some injury troubles and explains that he doesn't mind playing in numerous positions for Mauricio Pochettino.

"I am enjoying my football now. After the World Cup there was talk of me moving on. I was speaking to another club which obviously Tottenham know about but it didn't happen," Rose told Sky Sports.

"I called the manager after the World Cup and he just said to me that I was welcome to stay but said I would have to get my head down.

"At the minute the manager is bringing me on at left midfield and central midfield. I still feel like a really valuable member of the team."

Whilst Pochettino and Rose haven't always seen eye to eye, the player insists they have a great relationship.

"If your parent says you cannot have any more chocolate, I'd be the one who would sneak some more when they weren't looking. That kind of sums up my relationship with Mauricio," Rose added.

"Out of the lads they would probably say I'm the naughty one but he always forgives me and he's brilliant."
