Danny Rose returns to Tottenham action as three Europa League squad members involved in U23 game

Danny Rose is back in a Tottenham shirt once again after returning to action for the club's U23s.

Falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho at the start of the year and subsequently heading to Newcastle United on loan, the left-back wasn't given a squad number by the boss upon his return and was duly left out of their Premier League squad after failing to find a move away.

Still contracted to the club until the end of this season, the left-back has been training away from the first team this campaign and it remains unclear as to what the future holds for him at present.

Well, the 30-year-old is actually back on the pitch this afternoon for the team's Premier League 2 clash against Derby County at Hotspur Way.

Mourinho compares Ludogorets win to Antwerp loss

Rose has been named in the side to take on the Rams, with Jack Clarke, Harvey White and Dennis Cirkin all involved after returning from Bulgaria last night as they were on the substitutes' bench for the 3-1 win over Ludogorets.

However, the inclusion of both Rose and Cirkin in the team has instead seen the former move into central midfield, as he did for Spurs in the Champions League clash against Real Madrid in 2017, as both are both left-backs by trade.

There is also a start for right-back Marcel Lavinier as the young defender joined Spurs in the summer following his Chelsea release.

Speaking about Rose last month, Mourinho opened up on the current situation regarding the England international after he failed to seal a move away from the club.

"Danny is not part of our squad," he said. "Danny wanted very, very much to leave in the January window last season. Why? Because he wanted to play and play and play.

"Then he went to Newcastle and I immediately had the feeling of being a player of his dimension that, thinking about Euros, I thought our future would be [Ben] Davies and [Ryan] Sessegnon.

"Then we had the possibility to get [Sergio] Reguilon and I thought that would be a good opportunity for Ryan to get game time and develop.

"With Danny, the players and agents make the market," he added. "If the agent didn't find a solution for Danny to move then it's a question you have to ask him."
