Danny Rose on Tottenham transfer talk — and getting rubbished by a football icon

Danny Rose intends to go out with a bang if the Champions League Final next month does turn out to be his last game in a Tottenham shirt.

The England defender is admired by clubs including moneybags French champions Paris Saint-Germain, and Spurs are understood to be open to a deal at the right price.

Speaking after his side’s incredible 3-2 win over Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday night, left-back Rose said: “I keep seeing I’m being sold.

“If that’s the case and it's going to be my last game for Tottenham, I’m hoping to go out with a bang and lift a trophy.”

Rose, among a string of Spurs players to impress at the Johan Cruyff ArenA as they rallied from 3-0 down on aggregate with just 36 minutes remaining to go through on away goals with a stoppage-time winner, also took aim at pundit Ruud Gullit.

Dutch legend Gullit had criticised a number of Tottenham players following Ajax’s 1-0 first-leg win last week.

He said: “Dele Alli — technically-wise, so bad. Victor Wanyama, technically-wise. Danny Rose too. I see them every week and how is it possible to make so many mistakes? I know you’re under pressure, but you need to know what to do, and they didn’t.”

After Lucas Moura’s stunning hat-trick set up the all-Premier League showdown with Liverpool in Madrid on June 1, the 28-year-old Yorkshireman hit back: “Seeing people’s comments like Ruud Gullit after the first game and how rude he was, it’s nice that we fought back tonight and shut him up.

“He was very critical of individual players and saying how bad we were technically and he’s bang out of order for that, so that was fuel to the fire.

"I hope he eats his words.”

Liverpool have beaten Tottenham 2-1 in both Premier League meetings this season, at Spurs' temporary Wembley HQ in September and in the Anfield return at the end of March.
