Danny Murphy's instant Kieran Tierney Arsenal regret as pundit forced into live TV scramble to make things right

A commentator's curse truly is the stuff of nightmares for broadcasters when covering live football.

And Danny Murphy endured his very own ground-swallowing moment during Arsenal 's 2-0 extra time FA Cup win over Newcastle live on BBC.

The sombre former Liverpool star might lack a touch of pizazz but he knows his stuff and provides telling insights for punters watching at home to enjoy.

But he was left singing the blues when he awarded rising Gunners goalscore Emile Smith-Rowe the man of the match award while it was still 1-0 - seconds before Kieran Tierney underlined why he was man who deserved the bubbly on offer from the Beeb.

Murphy appeared to seriously doubt himself as he gave the substitute the award while he also praised former Celtic man's lung-bursting efforts.

But seconds later Tierney created a wonderful goal in the dying seconds for Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to slot home and secure the holders' place in the next round.

And Murphy confessed seconds after the Arsenal skipper's effort hit the back of the net that he may have got it wrong.

He said: "Can they (Smith-Rowe and Tierney) share it, can they share the champagne?"

Tierney was exceptional against Steve Bruce's side and created a string of chances that went begging before the late drama in extra time .

The 23-year-old rightly earned praise from Match of the Day panelists Alan Shearer and Ian Wright in the aftermath victory as the Scotland international continues to take his game to the next level.
