Danny Murphy makes James Maddison transfer prediction amid Man Utd interest

Danny Murphy believes Leicester star James Maddison would jump at the chance to join Manchester United .

The Foxes midfielder has impressed since moving from Norwich last season, earning himself a first international call-up in the process.

United have been consistently linked with a move for the 23-year-old, but Leicester have tabled the offer of a new deal to ward off the Red Devils' interest.

Maddison still has over three years left to run on his current deal and Leicester are confident he will sign an extension to remain with the club.

However Liverpool legend Murphy reckons the midfield maestro would be silly to turn down United's advances - should they step up their interst.

Speaking on Sky Sports' The Debate, Murphy said: "You cannot tell me there's a young English footballer at Leicester, no matter how well they are doing, who would turn down Manchester United. It's not going to happen.

"If they come in for James Maddison and pay enough, he is gone.

"I am not a United fan but they still have the draw. To play at Old Trafford every week instead of Leicester, regardless of position, he is gone.

"If he is confident enough in his own ability, he will think he can take United into the top four next season."

Maddison's form earned him an England debut last month as his reputation continues to soar.

The attacking ace, 23, has five goals and three assists in the Premier League this term after continuing to improve since a £22million move from Norwich in June 2018 on a five-year deal.

The deadball specialist was on fire in Sunday's 4-1 thrashing at Aston Villa and is set to see his £60,000 salary rocket.

Leicester return to action at home to strugglers Norwich on Saturday before an EFL Cup tie away at  Everton  and a trip to Manchester City .
