Danny Murphy explains why Liverpool star reminds him of David Beckham

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said Trent Alexander-Arnold's crossing is at a similar level to that of Manchester United cult hero David Beckham.

Alexander-Arnold continued last season's fine form by providing a brilliant ball for Divock Origi to score during the 4-1 win over Norwich on Friday , and he is looking to replicate his high number of assists from the last campaign, where he created an impressive 12 goals.

Murphy heaped praise upon the 20-year-old during an interview with talkSPORT, and believes Alexander-Arnold is one of the most talented full-backs he has seen in some time.

"Trent has a display of passing and technical ability that we’ve not seen in a full-back for many, many years," Murphy said.

"Trent, for me, is as good a crosser of the ball I’ve seen since David Beckham. His crossing is already as good as Beckham, definitely. His set plays and crossing are both phenomenal.

"His technical ability, his passing ability is very unusual for a full-back, normally it’s a midfielder who possess that type of quality."

Alexander-Arnold has been a revelation since coming through the youth team at Liverpool , making his first senior appearance in 2016.

It was last season, however, where he really made the right-back spot his own at Liverpool, and his impressive performances have also seen him break into the England team, where he is now expected to fight with the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker for a place in the starting line-up.

The 12 assists he provided in the Premier League last season is a record for a defender, overtaking team-mate Andy Robertson, who had recorded 11.

Alexander-Arnold will be hoping to create more opportunities for Liverpool's strikers in the Reds' next attempt to claim silverware when they take on Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul on Wednesday before a trip to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.
