Danny Murphy explains why Leeds United have the best supporters in the country

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has heaped praise on Leeds United supporters after their showing against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

The Whites' travelling contingent were at their brilliant best on Monday night as a sold-out allocation of 8,000 supporters filled the Emirates away end for their third-round clash.

The late Monday night fixture didn't put off the United faithful, with their voices heard loud into the north London sky.

With Marcelo Bielsa's side on course to end their 16-year wait for Premier League football, Murphy was left reminiscing about Leeds' last top-flight stint.

The ex-Liverpool midfielder has labelled Leeds' supporters as a "special bunch" and claims that Elland Road always produced a "phenomenal atmosphere".

"I always have fond memories of playing at Elland Road," he said to the BBC during commentary of Arsenal vs Leeds.

"It's easy to say supporters are good around the country but they are a special bunch.

"It's a phenomenal atmosphere every time you go there. We took a few beatings but we also had some good times, they had a really good side back then."

The Whites will face an away tie with Bournemouth in the fourth round of the FA Cup if they can progress past Arsenal.

With ties set to be played across January 24-27, United could be in store for another Premier League clash if they can muster up the mother of all cup upsets against the Gunners.
