Danny Mills sends message to Mauricio Pochettino about Tottenham's right-back dilemma

Danny Mills has urged Mauricio Pochettino to give his full backing to one of his right-back options for the sake of stability in the team.

Following Kieran Trippier's departure, Kyle Walker-Peters, Serge Aurier and Davinson Sanchez have all been in contention for the vacant role with none of the trio yet making the jersey their own.

But while it makes sense to give each player a chance to stake their claim, Mills says that it's important for Pochettino to make a decision and stick with it so that the defensive line can forge a cohesion.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said: “The big issue that Tottenham do have is that they don’t have a number one right-back.

"They don’t have a number one number two, if that makes sense. We’re not quite sure who that is obviously after Kieran Trippier has left.

“They’ve got to get through the next month or so, give Walker-Peters or Aurier a run of games – Sanchez played there, out of position, which isn’t ideal, a centre-half at right-back is never the best option in the world.

“They need to settle down over the next month and (Pochettino needs to) say to one of them: ‘Right, you’re playing, this is your position for the next three or four games,’ and give that player a chance to settle down, rather than him being on edge like: ‘If I have half a bad game, I might be out.'”
