Danny Mills outlines the reasons why Man United might be 'appealing' to Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino has been tipped to leave Tottenham for Manchester United if and when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer runs out of time at Old Trafford.

That's the view of former Leeds United and Manchester City star Danny Mills, who has opened up on the difficult task on Solskjaer's hands at the Red Devils.

United have endured an indifferent start to the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, with defeats against Crystal Palace and West Ham United proving to be low points. Spurs have not fared much better as they sit just one place above United on only goals difference after six league matches.

However, Pochettino has enjoyed success with Spurs previously which has been monitored around Europe. The Argentinian has overseen four consecutive top-four finishes in the league for Tottenham, with the club also making it to the final of the Champions League last term.

Real Madrid are believed to be keeping tabs on the 47-year-old, while United were linked previously though Pochettino never showed any interest in departing London. But Mills is betting on that changing if Solskjaer does not survive United's transition process.

Mills told talkSPORT: "Is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the right man for that rebuilding job?

Watch Pochettino's reaction to Leicester loss

"He’s never done it before and it’s a very specific role that you need and it’s his first proper job. I know he was successful at Molde but he didn’t do well at Cardiff.

"Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world and if it’s a complete rebuilding project, is he the right man for that job? I’ve always questioned it.

"Manchester United has to be very appealing for Pochettino. He must be thinking: 'I’ve done everything possible with Tottenham, how do I take them to the next level now? Is it going to be possible?'

"Without increased funds he can’t keep doing that season after season. He’s improved them no end and he’s clearly got a plan of bringing through players. He would have been the perfect fit for Manchester United and their rebuilding project."
