Former England midfielder Danny Mills has claimed that there may be no room in the Spurs team for Eric Dier next season.
Dier struggled to establish himself in the Tottenham starting eleven last season due to a injury hit season, the England man made just 28 appearances in all competitions, many of them coming off the bench, including a 16 minute cameo in the Champions League final defeat against Liverpool at the start of the month.
With Dier being unavailable for many games, other midfielders have stepped into the fore and have shown Pochettino how they can perform on the biggest stage, and Mills has named who he thinks should be starting ahead of Dier next season.
“Harry Winks, certainly, without a doubt, he’s good enough to be in there," the pundit told football insider .
"He could go on to be an outstanding player. We’ve seen him play fabulous in the Champions League, we’ve seen him play fabulous internationally as well.
"He’s a player that looks like he wants to nail down that holding role in that area. Does that mean there’s no room for Eric Dier in that role? Quite possibly."
Winks made 41 appearances in all competitions in the 2018/19 season, including starting that Champions League final. The 23-year-old has also established himself as a regular in Gareth Southgate's Three Lions squad.
Aswell as Winks stepping up, Pochettino seems to be on the lookout for extra quality in the middle of the pitch. The Lilywhites have been heavily linked with moves for Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso in recent weeks.
