Danny Mills explains why Kalvin Phillips should be valued the same as in-demand Liverpool prospect

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills believes Whites star Kalvin Phillips should be valued around the same mark as Liverpool's Harry Wilson.

Speculation has continued over the long-term future of Phillips at Elland Road, with media reports suggesting that a number of Premier League clubs are interested in the Whites academy graduate.

Both Phillips and Wilson were among two of the best performers in the Championship last season, with the Liverpool loanee scoring 15 goals in 40 league outings for Derby County.

And Mills, who made 101 appearances for the Whites in a five-year spell at Elland Road, believes that although the pair are different types of players, they should demand a similar transfer fee due to the impact they both had on their respective sides.

“You have to look at in true value compared to other players. If Manchester City are quoting £15million for Jack Harrison then where does that put him at? There is a scale," the former England defender told Football Insider.

“Has he (Phillips) played an awful lot of football? Yes. Is he now experienced? Yes. Is he still the right age? Yes. All those factors are in his favour. It makes him a very attractive proposition to other clubs – he’s been there, he’s done it.

“Liverpool are talking £25million for Harry Wilson – is he as good as that? Yes. He’s different and it’s a different type of position but is he just as important to a team? Yes, so realistically you’ve got to be looking at £20million-plus.”

Aston Villa were one of the clubs linked with a move for Phillips, with a fee of £14million be uttered.
