Danny McGuire expresses concern over Leeds Rhinos after dismal start

Danny McGuire admits it is hard to see how Leeds Rhinos are going to turn things around after their dismal start to the Super League season. McGuire, a bona fide legend of the club, is currently an assistant coach at Hull KR but admitted to still being a fan of the club after an iconic career at Headingley.

McGuire ruled himself out of the running for the vacant head coach position made available following the resignation of Richard Agar. His former team-mate and long-term friend Jamie Jones-Buchanan is currently in the post on an interim basis and insists he is the perfect man to galvanise a squad low on confidence.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, McGuire admitted the 'Golden Generation' that he played a pivotal role in had gone through their own dark times, but had always found a way through them. Now, McGuire says it is the current crop who must do the same.

He said: "I think they're in a fair bit of trouble and Richard Agar stood down and my great friend Jamie Jones-Buchanan took over a few weeks ago. If there's one man who bleeds blue and amber more than myself it is Jamie, he's Leeds Rhinos through and through, he lives and breathes the club and if he can't galvanise the players, I'm pretty sure nobody can.

"It is a fairly tough period for the Rhinos at the minute but I suppose through the bad times - Jon (Wilkin) said there we had some tough times during our period but we stuck together, believed in the process and came through the other side.

"It does make you appreciate the good times more but at the minute we can't really see where the good times are coming from with a Rhinos hat on."
