Danny Malin new Leeds restaurant review: We tried food at Brody's - and couldn't fault it

So after appearing on Danny Malin’s Rate My Takeaway show and giving his burger-joint Brody’s a solid ten out of ten rating, my team asked me to return to give the food a more considered review.

It was a prospect that I wasn’t altogether against – as American style fast food goes, it was spectacular. Sure, it’s no doubt massively unhealthy, full of products fried in oil, but as a junk-food treat, it’s an absolute delight.

Danny’s co-owner Ashleigh Steel describes the food as “not fast food”, emphasising the point the food takes a while to make and they use high quality products. The takeaway opened a few weeks ago on March 11, prior to that Brody's was in Ashleigh's burger trailer in Bramley.

I made my order over the phone and it took about 20 minutes for it to be ready to collect. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, especially over the phone giving me tips with my order as they offer an assortment of sauces and optional food items.

I decided to go with two menu items which I hadn’t tried from there before. I ordered the Brody’s Special Burger and their Chicken Munchbox.

Brody's Special Burger and fries (Samuel Port)

The Brody’s Special burger came with a big portion of fries which were perfectly cooked with a garnish of paprika scattered across them. The burger itself a thick wedge of fried chicken breast, it was really succulent and had a lovely dark sheen across it. It was glazed in Brody’s Special Sauce, which was sweet and it was loaded with lots of fresh veg.

Heaven wrapped between a pair of soft bread buns. Top quality stuff.

With the Chicken Munchbox, I was given a variety of choices to mix the order up. I could get a choice of four of either chicken wings, chicken strips, chicken bites, fries, sweet potato fries, halloumi or mozzarella fries.

I went with chicken wings, chicken strips, sweet potato fries and halloumi. The box was massive, a lot of food in there! I was also offered a range of sauces, I went with the Brody’s Special Sauce and peri-peri. As bonus it also comes with salad, a nice big portion of rocket.

The chicken wings were massive and covered in a peri-peri glaze (Samuel Port)

So, the chicken wings were gigantic. The thought of how massive this bird may have been, makes me shiver. The meat practically fell off the bone, really succulent, and the peri-peri glaze was so sharp and sweet. It had a real kick to it, nice little oomph of spice intermingled with the fried texture.

The chicken strips again were really large, crunchy and the chicken was cooked just right. The halloumi was cooked perfectly, it had nice brown glaze over each of the three pieces – I don’t have a bad word to say about it.

The only item that didn’t quite work were the sweet potato fries, they were soft and slightly sloppy. However, this is likely down to them sweating in the munch box for a while during my journey home – I wish I’d tried them as soon as I’d collected the order.

Overall, fantastic stuff, definitely worth the trip out if you fancy sampling Danny Malin’s takeaway. It gets the big thumbs up 10/10 from me (again!).
