Danny Ings has been told to snub a transfer to Tottenham in order to remain with Southampton, while a surprise Arsenal verdict has also been issued.
The forward has been in sensational form in the past 18 months and Spurs have expressed an interest in the former Liverpool man, who is set to see his contract on the south coast expire in 2022.
However, former England striker Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Ings should snub a proposed move to Spurs and that Arsenal would actually be a better fit if any transfer was to materialise.
"It’s very tough, isn’t it? You see what happened at Liverpool with him. He didn’t get much game time," he told TalkSport.
“Southampton is a club he feels at home at and he’s playing football and getting into the England squad.
“Does he want to move now and play second choice to Harry Kane at Spurs? That could cost him a place at the Euros! For me, I’d stay where I am and try and come to an agreement with Southampton.
“He would suit Arsenal at the moment. You look at [Alexandre] Lacazette and he’s come into some decent form, but you put Ings into that Arsenal team at the moment and he would definitely score goals. But Southampton fans may argue that Southampton might finish above Arsenal this season.
“He’s probably thinking to himself, ‘I’m on fire here, I’m scoring week in, week out, and I’m one of the better strikers in the league, so this is my chance at 28 to get that massive deal and sign a four or five-year contract’.
“You want what you’re worth. If you’re speaking to other players and they’re earning a certain amount, he’ll be thinking, ‘I deserve the money’.
“As much as he loves it at Southampton, if it’s his last big pay day he’s probably thinking I need to get it.”
