Danny Ings to miss England triple-header as Southampton striker requires surgery on knee injury

England and Southampton have suffered a blow with the news that striker Danny Ings will be out for four to six weeks due to a knee injury.

Ings suffered the issue during Southampton’s 4-3 win at Aston Villa on Sunday and had to be substituted with five minutes to go in that match.

The striker will undergo surgery on Thursday, meaning he will miss England’s friendlyagainst the Republic of Ireland next week and their subsequent Nations League meetings with Belgium and Iceland.

“At the moment it looks like he is out for four to six weeks,” said Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

“He'll have a small surgery tomorrow morning. It could be worse, but he'll be out and it's not good news for us.

“We are more than Danny Ings. It's a big loss, but it's important now for other players to give us alternatives.

“Nobody has to play like Danny Ings, every player should play his best possible game.”
