Danny Ings names Liverpool star as 'most underrated player' with 'unbelievable ability'

Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings has hailed his ex-Anfield teammate James Milner as the most underrated player he has played with in his career.

Ings joined Liverpool in 2015, the same summer as Milner, after his contract at Burnley expired.

However, Ings' time at Anfield was heavily disrupted due to numerous ligament injuries he suffered, meaning that he was unable to put a sustained run together under Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking at the Saints Foundation's All In This Together online event, Ings had this to say when asked who is the most underrated player he's played with.

He said: “I'd probably have to say James Milner.

“There's always that banter, the boring Milner and stuff, but he's a great guy.

“He's got unbelievable ability and he just works so hard.

“I think until you're actually on the training pitch with him and spending every day with him, I think it's hard to actually realise how good a football player he actually is.

“Still doing it at his age now, running further than everybody else in his team. I think he's probably the most underrated player because he's got so much ability.”

Milner is currently fifth on the all-time Premier League appearance list with 564 to his name, currently sat 89 matches behind the record-holder Gareth Barry.

Milner has enjoyed a great deal of success in his long career which first started as a 16-year-old at Leeds United.

Milner has made 250 appearances for the Reds since he joined in 2015, winning the Champions League, Premier League, Super Cup and Club World Cup in the process.
