Danny Ings explains how similarities between Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Ralph Hasenhuttl have helped him

Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings has insisted there are clear similarities between Jurgen Klopp and Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The ex-Burnley striker moved to the South Coast from Anfield in 2019 after an initial season-long loan.

Ings' times at Liverpool was blighted by injuries, with the striker suffering two serious knee problems before moving to Southampton for regular first-team football.

This season, Ings has been in sensational form, scoring 18 Premier League goals and registering two assists, prompting talk of a potential England call-up.

That has begged the question whether Ings could have stayed at Liverpool and played deputy for Roberto Firmino, a role the Reds have struggled to source.

However, Ings believes there are clear similarities to Klopp and his current boss, Hassenhuttl, citing their demand for constant improvement.

Asked how Klopp and Hasenhuttl compare, Ings told the BBC : "I can see the same amount of passion in wanting to win. Even when we do win it's all about how we need to be better.

"He has a real determination to work with us and improve us and that's great."

Asked about getting over his injuries, Ings said: "Yeah I am extremely happy.

"It did take a long time. I read something saying I was out for 500 days and that's a long time.

"But I never lost focus and I kept believing in myself."
