Danny Ings and Jarrod Bowen both score as West Ham kick pre-season off in style

Just 33 days after lifting the Europa Conference League trophy in Prague, West Ham were back out on the pitch again on Monday night in their first pre-season game of the 2023/24 season.

Two goals in either half were enough for David Moyes' side to see off National League outfit Boreham Wood 4-1 at Meadow Park, kicking off their busy summer schedule in style.

Danny Ings, who managed just three goals in 22 games last season after his January move from Aston Villa, scored the opener on 25 minutes with a curling, first-time strike.

The Hammers doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Pablo Fornals' dangerous cross was met by Kamari Swyer. The 20-year-old midfielder, who made his first team debut in the Conference League group stages last season, timed his run perfectly to head it home and make it 2-0 before the break.

Substitute Jarrod Bowen, who scored the winner for West Ham in Prague last month, then added the third on 78 minutes, tapping home Conor Coventry's low cross, before Gideon Kodua made it four with a sweet volley after Bowen's lofted pass to him.

Boreham Wood did manage to add a late consolation through Femi Ilesanmi though, who managed to deceive Joseph Anang in the Hammers goal with a swerving effort from range.

David Moyes' side will now be heading to Australia for their next pre-season friendly which sees them take on Perth Glory at the Optus Stadium on July 15.

That's followed by a clash against Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the same ground on July 18, before the Irons return to England to face Dagenham & Redbridge at the Chigwell Community Stadium on Saturday, July 22.

They're then back on the road for a trip to Roazhon Park to face Ligue 1 outfit Rennes on Saturday, July 29 and to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on August 5.

West Ham's Premier League season then kicks off on August 12 with a trip to the Vitality Stadium to face AFC Bournemouth.
