Danny Green discusses possibility of joining Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James

Danny Green averaged 10.3 points per game as a starter for the NBA champion Toronto Raptors last season. He also shot a career-high 45% from three-point range while strengthening the Raptors attack defensively from the perimeter. At 32 years old, the 10-year NBA veteran is one of the best available free agents still on the market not named Kawhi Leonard. During the latest episode of his Inside The Green Room podcast, Green discussed the possibility of teaming up with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

“It speaks for itself,” Green said of the Lakers now featuring LeBron alongside Anthony Davis. “And they’ve got other good pieces. Kuzma. They signed Jared Dudley, Troy Daniels, some shooters. And when you’ve got those two guys you know the sky is the limit.”

It has been widely speculated that Green is waiting on Kawhi to make his free agent decision before selecting the team he will play for next season. There is a chance that both Leonard and Green could both end up back with the Raptors in defense of their title. But if Green decides to leave Toronto, he’ll certainly have plenty of suitors. In the event the Lakers don’t use their remaining cap space to acquire Kawhi on a max contract, they could go hard after Green’s services as a contingency plan that has significant upside.

During the podcast, Danny also mentioned the Clippers and Mavericks as other potential free-agent destinations along with the Lakers and Raptors. Prior to spending eight seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Green was a teammate of LeBron’s during his rookie season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Last year, Green finished second in the NBA behind only Joe Harris in three-point field-goal percentage.
