Danny Dyer has revealed he is back on track after becoming a “car crash” during a “few nutty years”.

The actor flew to South Africa last year on a break from EastEnders to sort out his issues after a booze-fuelled altercation at the National Television Awards in January.

Dyer, 41, has now opened up about his troubles, saying he feels he has a “responsibility” to speak out.

“I was a car crash,” he told co-star Jake Wood on his Pound For Pound boxing podcast. “I had a few nutty years. When you have a bit of fame you have a responsibility to speak up.

“It comes with maturity. It comes with experience. It takes us a long time to grow up as men. I have been reaping the rewards now and I am in a good place. It is all good.”

His comments come months after his daughter – and Love Island 2018 champion – Dani Dyer revealed her father is tee total.

Speaking in February ahead of her short-lived stint on Survival of the Fittest she also addressed reports her father had moved out of the family home he shares with his wife Jo Mas over rumours of infidelity.

Danny Dyer's alternate Christmas message

“He’s always been at home,” she told reporters. “With my mum and dad, you’re going to always get horrible things said about your family but they’re really strong now.

“They got married. He needed a place near EastEnders. He works late nights but he’s home.

“My dad doesn’t drink anymore.”

The father-daughter duo made their joint stage debut earlier this month in Nativity! The Musical.
