Danny Dyer has no plans to ditch EastEnders after becoming 'Mr Saturday Night' quiz host

Danny Dyer has revealed he loved escaping the misery of Albert Square to become a “Mr Saturday Night” quiz host.

But he admitted the transition from EastEnders to BBC1’s new The Wall was tricky – and said he had no plans to ditch his soap opera career.

Danny, 42, said: “It’s been quite difficult – there’s a lot of anxiety around the idea of being a game show host because what is that?

“I’ve enjoyed it more than I thought I would.”

He added: “It’s been quite a leap from Walford, it can be quite dark. Whereas this is a light-hearted world so it’s been quite nice to have a break and do something different.”

Danny said he did not know whether he could follow in the footsteps of Bradley Walsh by mixing his acting with presenting long term.

“I love acting far too much. I don’t know if you can really be both. Let’s just see how The Wall pans out,” he said.

The Wall, in which pairs of players can win cash determined by balls falling into slots, starts on Saturday.

The questions are voiced by Angela Rippon, 74, who said the host “does it brilliantly”.

But Danny, whose catchphrase for the show is “drop em”, admitted he felt terrible when contestants left empty-handed. “You feel it, it’s painful,” he groaned.
